Panthers Fall To Villanova, 83-59

VILLANOVA, Pa.-The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team could not overcome the outside shooting of Villanova as it fell to the Wildcats, 83-59, Wednesday night at The Pavilion. The Panthers dropped to 7-16 overall and 2-10 in the conference, while the 'Cats improved to 14-9 and 8-4.
Villanova connected on 13 3-pointers in 26 tries to bury Pittsburgh, while the Blue and Gold drained a season-low (tied) three 3-pointers. Overall, the Panthers hit 40 percent of their shots (18 of 45) while the Wildcats made 53 percent of their attempts (32 of 60).
Pittsburgh opened up with a 12-9 lead after a pair of foul shots from junior Dallas Williams. However, Villanova erupted from behind the arc with seven 3-pointers before intermission to put the game out of reach, 47-24. Nicole Druckenmiller led the barrage with four treys in the final six minutes of the half.
Brooke Stewart paced the Panthers with 10 first-half points, but Pittsburgh was dominated on the glass in the first 20 minutes, 17-9.
In the second half, Villanova continued to pour it on and extended its lead to as many as 32 points on two occasions and cruised to the 24-point victory.
Laine Selwyn broke her string of seven consecutive double-doubles but led the Panthers with 19 points and three assists, while Trish Juhline paced the 'Cats with 19 points.
Pittsburgh is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Boston College at 2 p.m. The Panthers are looking to avenge a 81-57 loss in Pittsburgh on Jan. 12.
