- Title:
- Women's Tennis Assistant Coach
[quote]It is with tremendous excitement that we welcome Emily to the Pitt tennis program,[quote] Santos said. [quote]Emily was a top priority because of her character, knowledge of the game and experience at the highest level both as a player and a coach. We share the same vision that Pitt tennis can be a very special program and I have no doubt that together we will help Pitt reach historical marks.[quote]
One of the ACC[apos]s top players from 2008-12, Fraser etched her name all over the UVA record book. Regarded as one of the top programs in the nation, Fraser left Virginia ranking 4th all-time in career singles wins (102), 3rd all-time in career doubles wins (119) and 3rd all-time in combined victories (221). She also holds the all-time mark for most doubles victories in a single-season as she and her teammate Hana Tomljanovic compiled 37 wins in 2011.
Fraser[apos]s senior campaign was her most prolific. During her final season, the Rye, N.Y. native reached ITA national rankings of No. 15 in singles and No. 8 in doubles. She guided the Cavaliers to a final team ranking of No. 15, and for her efforts she was named the ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year and earned the Atlantic Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. She also garnered the IMP Award for UVA[apos]s Top Female Athlete of the Year.
Upon graduation, Fraser was a volunteer assistant coach for her Alma Mater from January-May of 2013. During that time, Fraser worked with the ITA National Freshman of the Year and All-American Julia Elbaba. Elbaba finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation. Fraser also served as a tennis teaching professional at the Boars Head Sports Club in 2013 where she coached, trained and conditioned elite junior tennis players.
[quote]Emily has experience in competing and coaching at a highly successful program,[quote] Executive Associate Athletic Director Donna Sanft said. [quote]She is well aware of the process of building a competitive program and she will help lay that foundation for Pitt in the Atlantic Coast Conference.[quote]
Her success was not limited to just the playing court as Fraser was also a three year member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll (2010-12) and was on the All-ACC Academic Team twice (2011-12). She graduated in May of 2012 with a concentrated degree in kinesiology: sports medicine.
Prior to her collegiate career, Fraser spent one year (2007-08) competing on the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Pro Circuit and on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Circuit where she achieved WTA world professional ranking in both singles and doubles.
[quote]At the time Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau was building UVA into a nationally prominent program, Emily relished the challenge of setting that foundation,[quote] Executive Associate Athletic Director Donna Sanft said.
