Pitts Heads to Santa Clara for Midweek Bout Against the Broncos

PITTSBURGH – Pitt swept San Jose State on the first stop of their seven-game West Coast road trip last weekend. The Panthers will make the short trip to Santa Clara to face the Broncos in a midweek matchup.
The Panthers are off to a 12-2 start and have won eight-consecutive games. It's their best start through the first 14 games of a season since 1995. The 1995 Panther team started the year 16-2 and won the Big East.
Top of the Order
• OF Lorenzo Carrier earned both national and conference weekly awards for his performance at the plate last week. Carrier was named the Golden Spikes National Player of the Week as well as ACC Player of the Week.
• In Pitt's last five games, Carrier is 16-for-19 (.842) with 24 RBIs, 13 runs scored, 6 home runs, 2 triples, 2 doubles and 40 total bases. He is hitting .490 this year with an ACC-leading 36 RBI and 1.082 SLG.
• Pitt's offense is off to a scorching start. They rank 4th in the country in OBP (.485), 4th in scoring (11.5), 6th in AVG (.350) and 6th in SLG (.607).
• The Panthers have scored 105 runs over their eight-game winning streak.
• Pitt has worked 111 walks so far this season, ranking them 3rd in the country and 3rd in the ACC. SS Caden Dulin is fourth in the ACC in walks with 17
• OF Julian Irizarry has thriving as Pitt's nine-hole hitter as of late. Irizarry is hitting .400 with 18 hits, 11 RBI, six doubles and one home run. His two-run shot last Friday was the first of his career.
• Pitt leadoff man AJ Nessler is hitting .404 with 39 total bases, 23 hits, 24 run scored, 11 RBIs and three home runs so far this season. He's recorded multiple hits in nine games this year.
• Pitt relievers LHP Mikey Gray and RHP Daniel McAuliff were named to the Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist by the NCBWA. The award is given annually to the country's best relief pitcher.
