PITTSBURGH — Pitt diving will send a program-record 12 divers to the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, which begin Monday, March 9 at Navy's Jejeune Hall in Annapolis, Maryland.
The three-day event, which features a field of 176 qualifiers from the region, will determine which divers advance to the upcoming NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.
Pitt's contingent is headlined by a women's squad that was a driving force in the Panthers finishing second in the ACC diving standings. Eight women earned Zone A bids: Presley Deck, Cassie Guerrera, Jocelyn Brooks, Jess Vega, Ayla Debowsky, Megan Iannon, Rachel Dickerson and Mariana Osorio Mendoza.
Guerrera, Brooks, Vega and Osorio Mendoza qualified in all three disciplines — 1-meter, 3-meter and platform — while Deck, Debowsky, Iannon and Dickerson each earned bids in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Vega earned a spot in the ACC platform diving final, and Osorio Mendoza qualified for the ACC 1-meter final in February in Atlanta.
On the men's side, Ethan Radio, Noah Bernard, Chase Marafioto and Luke Leale each earned bids in all three events — 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
