Pitt Travels to Virginia for Thursday Night ACC Clash

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. for a matchup with Virginia on Thursday, Jan. 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on ACCNX.

THE OPENING TIP
- Pitt dropped a Sunday afternoon decision to SMU, falling 83-76 at the Petersen Events Center.
- Five Panthers scored in double-figures, led by Mikayla Johnson with a team-high 20 points. Johnson added six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the effort.
- Fatima Diakhate delivered a strong all-around performance, finishing with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds to secure her eighth double-double of the season. She also added four assists and three blocks.
- Theresa Hagans Jr. chipped in 16 points and a team-leading five assists.
- Carla Viegas scored 12 points, connecting on four three-pointers in the opening quarter.
- Lauren Rust added 10 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting, along with four rebounds and two blocks.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday will mark the 16th meeting between Pitt and Virginia.
- The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 8-7 and are riding a two-game series win streak into Thursday's matchup.
- Pitt's last win against Virginia came on Jan. 25, 2024, when the Panthers defeated the Cavaliers 56-52 to earn Coach Verdi's first ACC win as the head coach at Pitt.

- Virginia leads the conference in blocked shots (8.2 per game) and assists (18.7 per game).
- The Cavaliers are second in the ACC in field goal percentage, shooting 46.6% through 18 games. Virginia is second in rebounding with an average of 43.8 per game as well as team offensive rebounds, at 15.3 per game.
- Kymora Johnson leads the Cavaliers in points per game (18.1), assists per game (6.2), and steals per game (2.3).
