PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women's soccer team will host California for the first time in program history Thursday, Sept. 11, in its ACC opener at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear black to show their support, and complimentary black crest flags will be distributed at the entrance while supplies last.
THE OPENING KICK
•The Panthers aim to end a four-match winless stretch, having closed non-conference play with back-to-back draws at home. In both contests, Pitt opened the scoring but was unable to hold on for the win.
•Thursday's matchup marks Cal's first-ever visit to Pittsburgh. The two sides met for the first time last season in Berkeley, where the Golden Bears earned a 1–0 result.
•Freshman Hannah Minogue has appeared in all six matches this season, starting the first three and logging at least 45 minutes in each. She recorded her first career goal against Bucknell — Pitt's lone score in that match.
•Senior Margaret Wilde made her first career start against Cincinnati, netting Pitt's only goal in a breakout performance. She enters Thursday's match with two goals on the season.
•Defensively, the Panthers have posted three clean sheets through eight matches. Olivia Lee and Sage Stelzer have started every match, anchoring a backline that has conceded just two second-half goals in non-conference play.
•Veteran goalkeepers Ellie Breech and Abby Reisz have combined for 26 saves and a .839 save percentage.
THE OPPOSITION
•The Golden Bears concluded non-conference play with a 3-1-4 record, suffering their only defeat in a 1–0 loss to Pepperdine.
•Cal played to a scoreless draw against Cal State Fullerton in August.
•The Bears travel to Pittsburgh following consecutive 0–0 draws against Washington State and Cal Poly.
