University Park, PA - Pitt (15-9, 2-4) powered past Penn State on Tuesday night as the Panthers earned a 9-2 road win.
Sophomores Ryan Zuckerman and Aidan Coleman shined and lifted Pitt to their first win at Penn State since 2019. Zuckerman had his second five-RBI game this season going 2-3 with a home run and a double. Coleman threw five shutout innings in relief and earned his second win of the year. He struck out five and allowed just one hit.
Eight of out nine Panther starters recorded a hit today, three of which had two, as Pitt smacked double-digit hits for the third-consecutive game. Sebastian Pisacreta hit his fourth home run this season as he went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Caden Dulin went 2-4 as well and drove in a run on an RBI double in the seventh inning. Logan Duffy drove in his first run of the year on an RBI single in the second inning.
Antonio Doganiero made the second start of his career and matched his start from last week. Doganiero went four innings and allowed just one earned run, one walk and five hits. Aidan Coleman dazzled in relief as he threw five shutout innings in relief and earned his second win of the season.
The Panthers got their offense rolling early with a run in top of the first inning. Luke Cantwell and Jayden Melendez each drew walks to lead off the game. It's the thirteenth time the Panthers have led off a game by reaching base and twelfth time Cantwell has. A pair of flyballs brought Cantwell home as AJ Nessler moved him to third on a flyout to right center and Ryan Zuckerman drove him in on an RBI sacrifice fly to shallow right field.
Penn State got a run in the bottom half of the inning and game was tied at one after one.
The Panthers and Nittany Lions exchanged runs again in the second inning as the game was knotted at two after two.
Sebastian Pisacreta led off the top of the second inning with a double off the right field wall. With one out, Logan Duffy singled up the middle and drove in Pisacreta for his first RBI of the season. Duffy's RBI single momentarily regained Pitt's lead in the second inning before Penn State tied it again in the bottom half.
Doganiero settled in and fired two scoreless innings to finish his day. He matched his start from last week going 4 innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits.
Aidan Coleman came out of the bullpen to start the fifth inning for the Panthers and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning. He made the 20th appearance of his career and just his sixth in relief.
The Panther offense exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Cantwell started the rally with a double to left center. After Melendez walked, Pitt had runners at first and second. With two outs, Ryan Zuckerman drove a two-run double off the base of the left field wall that scored both Cantwell and Melendez. Caden Dulin followed with a double of his own, driving in Zuckerman and extending Pitt's lead to three. One pitch later, Sebastian Pisacreta launched his fourth home run of the year to left center. The Panthers led 9-2 after seven.
Ryan Zuckerman and the Panthers added two more in the ninth as he launched a two-run homer of his own. Zuckerman drove in his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day on the long ball, it was his second five-RBI game this season.
