Panthers Close Florida Trip with 67-53 Win Over Chicago State

NAPLES, Fla. – The Pitt women's basketball team bounced back with a 67-53 win over Chicago State in their final contest of the Florida Gulf Classic.
Pitt leaned on a balanced scoring effort as the Panthers secured the win behind double-doubles from Mikayla Johnson and Fatima Diakhate.
Johnson paced the Panthers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, for her first double-double of the season and the second of her career. Diakhate followed with her fourth double-double, collecting a career-high 14 boards to go with 12 points. Lauren Rust added 10 points and nine rebounds, falling just shy of a double-double of her own.
How It Happened
The Panthers opened strong with a 25-point first quarter, fueled by eight points from Johnson and a perfect 3-of-3 start from Megan Hollingsworth.
The Cougars chipped away at the margin, outscoring Pitt 17–12 in the second and 15–14 in the third, but the Panthers closed the door in the fourth quarter, outscoring Chicago State 16-10. Diakhate scored four points in the final stretch, and Hollingsworth knocked down a pair of free throws to cap a 6–0 run that sealed the win.

- Hollingsworth tallied a career high nine points in the matchup.
- The Panthers outrebounded their opponent 48-25, controlling the offensive glass with 21 offensive boards and 23 second chance points.
- The Panthers recorded two double doubles in the same game for the first time since Feb. 6, 2025, when Khadija Faye and Makayla Elmore did so against Boston College.
