PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's basketball team defeated Robert Morris, outscoring the Colonials 55–27 over the final three quarters, to secure a 63–54 win at the Petersen Events Center Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers erased a 19-point first-quarter deficit behind a 20-point performance from redshirt junior guard Mikayla Johnson, who scored 17 points in the second half to fuel the comeback.
Angel Jones added her third straight double-digit outing with 14 points and three assists while Fatima Diakhate neared a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
How It Happened
After a slow start sent Pitt into halftime trailing 38–27, back-to-back baskets from Johnson and a layup by Diakhate trimmed the margin to single digits. A 12-0 run in the period, including a layup from Theresa Hagans Jr. brought them within one, prompting an RMU timeout. Pitt took its first lead with just under two minutes left in the quarter on a layup by Jones and held a three-point edge moving into the fourth.
The Panthers closed it out by limiting Robert Morris to six points in the final 10 minutes. Johnson, who scored 12 points in the third quarter, capped off her 40-minute night with five points in the fourth, including a perfect 3-for-3 the charity stripe, as Pitt secured its second-straight victory.
