PITTSBURGH – Pitt Lacrosse student-athletes Alexa Carannante, Gracie Kahoun, Maggie Long and Megan Sheridan have been named team captains for the 2026 season. Carannante, Kahoun and Long are seniors, while Sheridan is a junior.
"Being named a captain is truly an honor, knowing that my teammates trust me and view me as someone who can lead this team," said Carannante. "It means the world to me. I hope to continue to be someone people can rely on, on and off the field and to help uphold our team pillars."
Carannante has played in 44 games as a Panther, including 20 starts. She's added 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Carannante has earned spots on the 2023, 2024 and 2025 All-ACC Academic Teams and the 2025 IWLCA Division 1 Honor Roll.
"It's an honor to be named a team captain this year by my teammates," said Kahoun. "For me, being captain means representing the program, the sisterhood and the standard built by those who came before us. Leadership isn't about a "C" on your chest — it's about showing up every day, putting the team first and earning your teammates' trust through effort and example. As a captain, I plan to leave the number 36 and the program better than I found it."
Kahoun has started 26 consecutive games and 32 overall. In her 37 games played, the Virginia native has picked up 16 ground balls and caused 25 turnovers. She has been named to the 2024 & 2025 All-ACC Academic Teams, the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team and the 2025 IWLCA Division 1 Honor Roll.
"To be named captain by my teammates and coaches is an honor that I couldn't have imagined," said Long. "I cannot wait to see what is in store for this team this year. To be a part of this group and in this role is truly special."
In just two seasons of competition (redshirted in 2023), Long has recorded 37 draw controls to go along with three ground balls and caused turnovers in 202 total games played. She has earned 2024 All-ACC Academic Team and 2025 IWLCA Division 1 Honor Roll honors.
"Being named a Pitt Lacrosse captain is an incredible honor and something I'll always cherish," said Sheridan. "To me, it means having the opportunity to lead a group of girls that I deeply respect and care for, both on and off the field. I feel privileged to be able to help shape a team culture where everyone feels valued and inspired. I'm excited to embrace the responsibility and give everything I have for this team that I love!"
Sheridan has been a staple in the Pitt lineup since arriving on campus in 2023-24. She has played in and started each of the 34 games played and already sits at seventh all time in ground balls (51) and fourth in caused turnovers (47). The rising junior has already earned 2024 and 2025 All-ACC Academic honors and was named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team.
The Pitt Panthers return 21 student-athletes and have added nine newcomers to form team five. The Panthers will open the 2026 season in February.
