Panthers Power Past Youngstown State, 16-5

PITTSBURGH – No. 23 Pitt women's lacrosse rolled past Youngstown State 16-5 Tuesday afternoon at Highmark Stadium, with Kaitlyn Giandonato netting six goals to lead the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers came out firing, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first quarter to put the game away early. Giandonato tallied three of those, with Emily Clemens dishing four assists in the first quarter alone. Julia Bruno added a free-position goal and Avery Moon capped the quarter with Pitt ahead 7-0.
Pitt kept the pressure on in the second, pushing the lead to 12-2 before the break. Giandonato added two more, and Paige Telatovich and Moon each found the net as well. Youngstown State accounted for the other two tallies of the second quarter.
Youngstown State scored twice in the third to cut the deficit to 14-4, but a man-up goal by Kaitlyn Magdar restored the comfortable cushion. Shaye Gluckman took over in net for the second half. Riley Ebersole's free-position conversion in the final period made it 16-4, and Youngstown State closed out the scoring at 16-5.
GAME NOTES
- Giandonato's six goals tie the Pitt single-game record and move her season total to 30 and career total to 66, third all-time in program history.
- Clemens finished with a career-high five assists, tying the Pitt single-game record.
- Magdar scored twice, including a man-up goal in the third quarter, matching her career high in goals.
- Aidan Carr won 16 of 22 draw controls.
- Sophomore Keira Rooney scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the third quarter.
- Pitt improved to 2-0 all-time against Youngstown State.
