Pitt to Clash with Cornell Tuesday Night at the Petersen Events Center

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team is set to clash with Cornell Tuesday evening at the Petersen Events Center. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and can be streamed on ACCNX.

The Opening Tip
- A hot start propelled Pitt to a 66-52 victory over Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.
- The Panthers went wire-to-wire, never relinquishing the lead after they jumped out to a 6-0 start before the Mountaineers got on the board with a free throw.
- Pitt led 25-8 after the first frame as they shot 85.7% from the field on 12-of-14 shooting.
- The Panthers took a 41-18 lead into the break. The lead grew to 27 points midway through the third quarter. Pitt secured the 14-point victory for their first win on the year.
- Three Panthers reached double figures. Fatima Diakhate posted a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double. Mikayla Johnson contributed 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Angel Jones tallied 10 points, and six rebounds.
- Pitt dominated the paint, scoring 42 of their 66 points from down low.
- The Panthers won the rebounding battle, 45-31.
Series History
- Tuesday will be the third all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Big Red. Pitt holds a 2-0 series advantage.
- This will be the first meeting since 2017, when the Panthers earned a 51-39 win at home on School Day.
- A win would mark Pitt's third straight victory over Cornell, with all three wins coming at home.
Scouting the Big Red
- Cornell opened up the 2025-26 season with a 64-38 loss at Bryant on Friday.
- Cornell went 7-20 last season, with a 3-11 record in the Ivy League. It was Emily Garner's first season at the helm of the Big Red, after spending the last seven seasons in the same position at Trinity College.
