Pitt returns to conference play on the road this weekend, visiting No. 25 Florida State for just the fourth Atlantic Coast Conference meeting between the programs. The Panthers last played in Tallahassee in 2020, earning a decisive 41-17 win. The Seminoles took the most recent matchup, a 24-7 decision in Pittsburgh last fall.
The Panthers enter Saturday’s noon kickoff coming off one of their most complete performances of the season, a 48-7 rout of Boston College. Pitt posted 503 total yards and held the Eagles to just 116, marking the team’s largest yardage margin in a conference game since 2010. True freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel made a memorable first start, completing 30 of 41 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns—the first ACC freshman to post such numbers in his debut since Clemson’s Deshaun Watson in 2014.
Defensively, Pitt continues to rank among the ACC’s best, sitting third in total defense (291.8 yards per game) and second in scoring defense (19.6). Linebacker Rasheem Biles leads the effort with 9.0 tackles per game, while wide receiver Kenny Johnson provides an offensive spark, ranking eighth in the league in all-purpose yards. The matchup also features a reunion of sorts: Florida State head coach Mike Norvell spent the 2011 season at Pitt as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
