PITTSBURGH — Each week, as Pitt prepares for its next opponent, we'll look at what the other side is saying about the Panthers. Here's a snapshot of how Florida State is sizing up Pitt ahead of Saturday's ACC clash.
"They're Elite Up Front"
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was quick to praise Pitt's defense, especially its disruptive front seven.
"They're elite with run pressures, tackles for loss, and affecting the QB," Norvell said. "Their speed and twitch are real. If you're late or take a bad step, they can expose you."
Tight ends coach Chris Thomsen compared Pitt's edge players to NFL stars.
"I've coached against Myles Garrett, Joey Bosa, Chase Young—Pitt's guys are in that mold. Speed and power together."
"We've Got to Rattle the Freshman"
With true freshman Mason Heintschel under center for Pitt, FSU's defense is focused on pressure.
"He had an outstanding debut," Norvell said. "We need to disrupt, pressure, and vary the coverage picture."
Defensive lineman Darrell Jackson Jr. echoed that game plan:
"He gets the ball out quick. We've got to throw him off rhythm and keep him contained."
"This Week is About Response"
Coming off back-to-back losses, the Seminoles say their focus has sharpened.
"We've stacked a couple good response practices," Norvell said. "Now it's about carrying that into Saturday."
Linebacker Blake Nichelson added:
"We still believe in our goals. The mentality is to win out—and it starts this weekend."
Kickoff between the Panthers and Seminoles is set for noon on ESPN in Tallahassee.
