PITTSBURGH — For the first time in program history, the Pitt women's soccer team defeated the nation's top-ranked opponent, earning a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Notre Dame on Thursday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
After 85 minutes of scoreless action, the Panthers broke through when a corner kick from Margaret Wilde connected with Mya Archibald, who flicked a header inside the left post to give Pitt the late lead. The Panthers' back line held firm over the final minutes to secure the historic upset.

Both sides traded chances in a tightly contested first half, highlighted by a crucial stop from Abby Reisz to keep the match level. Reisz finished with six saves, anchoring a defensive unit that frustrated the Irish attack throughout the night.
Notre Dame held a 16–13 edge in total shots, while Pitt's offense was paced by Wilde and Lola Abraham, who combined for seven shots and three on target. Sage Stelzer and Katie Ellermeyer each added two shots and nearly extended the lead with quality second-half opportunities.
The defensive duo of Olivia Lee and Sophie Rourke anchored the back line, each playing the full 90 minutes to help deliver the one of the program's most significant wins to date.
With the victory, the Panthers close the regular season with their first ACC win of the year on home turf and just their second all-time triumph over Notre Dame.
