Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. – The Pitt and Santa Clara women's soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw Sunday in the Golden State. Pitt's Celine Ottah scored for the second straight match after netting her first goal as a Panther Thursday at Loyola Marymount.
The first half was evenly matched between the Broncos and the Panthers with each team taking eight shots.
Adi Bianchin and Sage Stelzer put their chances on net but were thwarted by the Santa Clara keeper.
The Broncos put just one shot on net in the 28th minute, but Elli Johnson made the save to keep the game scoreless.
After the break, Pitt took control, building into the attacking third. The Panthers first dangerous opportunity came in the 61st minute.
Katie Ellermeyer crossed the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box and Ottah beat the defenders to the ball, poking it over the Santa Clara keeper's head and into the back of the net.
The Broncos had the opportunity to respond quickly as a yellow card issued to Katie Zailski in the box awarded Santa Clara a penalty kick in the 65th minute. The high shot just snuck in past the outstretched hands of Pitt goalkeeper Elli Johnson.
Both teams continued to look for the game-winner in the final 25 minutes.
Santa Clara drew five corners over that period, but the Pitt defense stood tall with Johnson making a great save in the 85th minute to secure the draw.
