Last Time Out (vs. Wake Forest)
Despite leading late in the second half, Pitt settled for a 1-1 draw against Wake Forest Friday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
With the result, the Panthers extended their unbeaten streak to three matches and moved to 5-1-4 at home this season.
Pitt nearly jumped in front just 90 seconds into the match after earning a penalty kick, but the attempt was saved, and two rebound shots were also stopped by the Wake Forest goalkeeper.
The Panthers dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Demon Deacons 10-2 and forcing six saves. Vilamitjana and junior forward Albert Thorsen each put multiple efforts on frame, while Pitt's back line kept the Deacs without a shot on goal through the half.
After the break, Pitt continued to press as Vilamitjana had an early shot blocked and senior defender Casper Svendby sent one high from distance.
The breakthrough came in the 71st minute when Thorsen pounced on a loose ball inside the box and slotted home his third goal of the season to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Pitt was reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute after a red card, and Wake Forest found the equalizer a few minutes later on a rebound following a corner.
Despite late pressure from Wake Forest, junior goalkeeper Jack Moxom made two saves down the stretch to secure the 1-1 draw.
