LOUISVILLE — Despite controlling play throughout the match, the Pitt men's soccer team was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Louisville on Friday evening at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
With the result, the Panthers (5-6-5, 1-4-3 ACC) extended their unbeaten streak to four matches and earned their first road point of the season. Pitt now awaits its ACC Men's Soccer Championship seeding and opponent.
The Panthers dictated the tempo from the opening whistle, holding 67 percent of possession and outshooting the Cardinals 14-7.
Senior defender Casper Svendby nearly put Pitt on the board just a minute in, but his low effort was denied by Louisville's goalkeeper. Junior midfielder Santiago Ferreira stayed active in the attack, firing a pair of shots that missed just off target before halftime.
After the break, Pitt continued to apply pressure. Ferreira tested the Cardinals' keeper twice in quick succession in the 61st minute, while senior defender Jackson Gilman had a strike moments earlier that was also saved.
Freshman midfielder Grayson Carter had multiple attempts blocked inside the box as the Panthers pressed forward in the closing stages. Louisville's best opportunity came in the 72nd minute, but junior goalkeeper Jack Moxom made a key stop to preserve the shutout. Moxom finished with two saves to secure his fourth clean sheet of the season.
