PITTSBURGH – Pitt fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2025-26 men's basketball team in action as the Panthers host former Big East rival Providence at the Petersen Events Center Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. Live updates from the game will be available on X (@Pitt_MBB).
SERIES HISTORY
- Pitt leads the all-time series with Providence, 31-17, including a 12-1 mark against the Friars since the 2003 season.
- The most recognizable moment in the series history came Jan. 25, 1988, when Sean Miller found a streaking Jerome Lane down the right wing at Fitzgerald Field House. Lane did the rest going up and through a helpless Providence defender for a backboard shattering slam and broadcast legend Bill Raftery solidified the moment with the iconic call "Send It In, Jerome!".
- The Friars and Panthers face off for the first time since 2013, and for the first time at the Petersen Events Center since 2012. The last time the Friars made the trip to Pittsburgh, Ashton Gibbs scored 22 points - including 14 straight during a late first-half run – and Trayvon Woodall added 17 points and nine assists as Pitt beat Providence 86-74, snapping an eight-game losing streak.
2025-26 ROSTER
- The Panthers return just four scholarship players from last season, including just two players with starting experience in Cameron Corhen and Brandin Cummings.
- Corhen averaged 11.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, starting in all 32 games last season. He finished third on the team in scoring and posted a 63.5 field goal percentage, which ranked second in the ACC among players with 4.0+ makes per game.
- Pitt signed top Australian prospect Roman Siulepa in July and he began practicing with the team in late August. Siulepa has the strength, athleticism, and skill set to be an impact player for the Panthers. He is coming off an impressive showing at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup (June 28-July 6) where he earned second team all-tournament honors.
- The Panthers signed four players out of the transfer portal in Barry Dunning, Jr. (South Alabama), Nojus Indrusaitis (Iowa State), Dishon Jackson (Iowa State), and Damarco Minor (Oregon State). In addition to Siulepa, the Panthers have four signees without collegiate experience in Omari Witherspoon (St. John's College), Henry Lau (Sydney Boys High/Sydney Kings), Macari Moore (Ann Arbor Huron), and Kieran Mullen (St. Thomas More)
