HOKIE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Last weekend, the Panthers traveled to Blacksburg, Va. to participate in the two-day Hokie Invitational. Pitt came away with six event wins and had student-athletes either tie or record a new personal best in 22 events.
- Je'Nyia Burton won two events, the 200 and 300-meter races. In the 200-meter, Burton crossed the line in 23.89 and was the only athlete to run sub 24 seconds. In the 300-meter, Burton was just shy of her own 37.66 school record set earlier this season, as she crossed the finish line in 37.67. A native of Orlando, Burton was named the PNC Achiever of the Week for her success on the track.
- Ilse Steigenga collected her first event title of the season, claiming the women's long jump with a mark of 6.16-meters. Steigenga won by a large margin, as she was the only athlete in the field to leap further than six meters.
- Nigel Hussey won the men's 60-meter dash with a new personal best of 6.70 and now holds the third fastest time in program history.
- Malik Ricketts helped the Panthers sweep the 300-meter race, joining Je'Nyia Burton. Ricketts recorded a time of 33.46.
- Eva Baldursdottir went back-to-back for her second consecutive victory in the high jump. After emerging victorious at the Nittany Lion Challenge, clearing a height of 1.80-meters two weekends ago, Baldursdottir cleared 1.76-meters for this week's win.
