The Panthers are set to open their 27th season when they begin the 2024 season at the LSU Invitational from February 9-10 at Tiger Park. Due to inclement weather predicted in the Sunday forecast, the Panthers will now play two doubleheaders Friday-Saturday. Pitt kicks off the tournament against Memphis (Feb. 9 - 1:30 p.m. CST) and then will play No. 15 LSU (Feb. 9 - 6:30 o.m. CST). The Panthers will play their regularly scheduled slate on Saturday, Feb. 10, facing off against Memphis (11 a.m. CST) and No. 15 LSU (1:30 p.m. CST).
IN SEASON OPENERS: The Panthers are 11-15 (.423) all-time in season openers and are just 1-4 in their last five season openers. Pitt has dropped the first game of the season in the last three years.
THE ROAD AHEAD: Pitt begins the season on the road for the first six weeks, playing 26 games from Feb. 9-March 17 before returning to Pittsburgh for their home-opener (Feb. 19 - vs Penn State). Pitt will face four 2023 NCAA tournament teams in the first three weeks of the season, facing off against No. 15 LSU (Feb. 10-11), Ole Miss (Feb. 16, 18), No. 10 Washington (Feb. 23), and No. 11 Oklahoma State (Feb. 24).
AGAINST TOP OPPONENTS: The Panthers are slated to play three opponents ranked in the top 15 of the ESPN.com/ USA Softball preseason poll in the first three weekends of the season. Pitt will play No. 15 LSU (Feb. 10-11), No. 10 Washington (Feb. 23), and No. 11 Oklahoma State (Feb. 24). The Panthers hold a 13-77 all-time record against top 25 opponents.
