Panthers Host NC State in Final ACC Meet of Regular Season Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (3-6-0, 1-4-0 ACC) will welcome the NC State Wolfpack (5-4-0, 5-0-0 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Fitzgerald Field House for the final ACC meet of the regular season. This dual meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start and will air live on the ACC Network.

THE MATCH UP
- This will be the 58th time the Panthers and the Wolfpack have met in program history.
- The Wolfpack currently hold an 11-50 edge to the Panthers.
- NC State played host to the Panthers earlier this season. The Wolfpack's 196.500 topped the Panthers' 194.100.
- Pitt is looking to continue their momentum they've accumulated thus far this season into the final ACC matchup of the regular season.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt earned their second highest team score of the season (196.125) – fighting hard until the end but came up short to the North Carolina Tar Heels 196.650 Friday night at Carmichael Arena.
- The Panthers started the evening off strong – securing a 49.050 team score on bars. Reyna Garvey saw herself back in the lineup for the first time this season – earning a 9.825. Junior Jordyn Ewing posted the highest score for the Panthers on this rotation (9.850) after sticking her dismount.
- Freshman Julie Julie Røttum Madsø earned a career-high score tonight with her 9.825 on vault. The Panthers saw two more 9.825 scores from fifth years Shruthi Anand and Ciara Ward. Jah'Liyah Bedminster anchored the rotation on vault again – posting a 9.850. Her score earned her the second place overall on the event.
- Pitt's 49.125 topped the Tar Heels' 49.100 on vault.
- Ward secured a season-high score of 9.850 to kick off the Panthers' strongest rotation of the evening on floor.
- Freshman Emily Todd kept the momentum going – securing a career-high 9.875 for her routine on floor.
- Bedminster continued on trend as she matched her own career-high 9.900. Her score secured her second place overall on floor.
- Ewing topped off the third rotation for Pitt with her 9.850 routine.
- Pitt's 49.225 is their second highest team floor score of the season so far.
- Sophomore Duke posted a personal best 9.800 on beam against the Tar Heels.
- Both Garvey and Hallie Copperwheat tied for the first place overall title on beam after each earning a 9.850 for their routines.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- The NC State Wolfpack secured the first-place title of the first regular season championship in ACC history after their record-breaking 197.575-196.00 win over No. 22 Clemson.
- The Wolfpack's 197.575 is the second-highest score in their program's history.
- Emily Shepard broke NC State's all-around program record after producing a 39.750 total score. She became the first gymnast in Wolfpack history to secure a 9.9+ on each event in the same meet.
- NC State produced season-high team scores across three events against Clemson on vault, bars and beam.
- The Wolfpack registered four 9.850 or higher on vault to post an overall 49.250.
- NC State secured a strong 49.450 team score on bars with Shepard posting a personal best of 9.975 for her routine. Each member of the bars rotation posted a 9.850 or higher for their routines.
- The Wolfpack marked their second highest score of the season on beam with their 49.375. Everyone on the third rotation secured a 9.825 or higher on the event.
- NC State posted three 9.9+ scores on floor with Chloe Negrete securing a 9.950 for her routine. The Wolfpack was able to secure a team score of 49.500 – their highest event score of the evening.
- After their strong performance against Clemson, the Wolfpack swept the ACC of the week honors.
ARAYAH SUNSHINE
- Simons posted a strong performance on Friday night against Clemson. Simons earned a 9.825 or higher across the three events she competed in. Kicking off the evening strong, the fifth year posted a 9.850 on vault. Continuing her momentum, she secured a 9.825 for her routine on bars. The fifth year completed the evening with a strong performance on beam – earning a 9.850 for her routine.
THE TERRIFIC TODD
- Freshman Todd who secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor (1/9) posted the highest score Pitt has seen thus far this season on Friday evening. She earned a 9.900 for her routine on bars.
- The Bristol, England native tied for the first place title on bars against Clemson (1/21) with her 9.825.
- The freshman posted a 9.725 for her routine on beam – earning a career high against Clemson (2/9).
- Todd secured a career high on vault with her 9.750 as well as on floor after earning a 9.875 for her routine at North Carolina (2/16).
NOTHING BETTER THAN BEDMINSTER
- Senior Bedminster secured Pitt's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor (1/15) for her performance against the Kent State Golden Flashes.
- The Loganville, GA native posted a season-high on vault with her 9.825 against the Wolfpack.
- In the meet at NC State (1/26), Bedminster secured a career-high 9.875 with her floor routine.
- Senior Jah'Liyah Bedminster posted a career-high 9.950 – securing a perfect score for her vault (2/2). The Panthers haven't seen a 9.950 on vault since Alyse Zeffiro in 2004.
- Her efforts against North Carolina (2/2) secured her the ACC Specialist of the Week honor.
- Bedminster matched her career high score on floor against North Carolina (2/16).
SHE'S JUST KEN
- Sophomore Duke posted a career-high score on floor against the Wolfpack – posting a 9.825.
- She earned a career-high score on beam against the Tar Heels with her 9.800 (2/16).
YAY FOR KAY
- Freshman Kaylee Larson posted a career high score on floor with her 9.900 against North Carolina (2/3).
MARVELOUS MADSO
- Freshman Madso posted a career-high score on vault against the North Carolina Tar Heels with her 9.825 (2/16).
UP NEXT
The Panthers will travel to Morgantown, WV where they will meet rival West Virginia in a quad meet with former EAGL foe Towson and Western Michigan on Sunday, March 3.
