
No. 22 Pitt Meets No. 21 Xavier at Corcoran Field

PITTSBURGH – The No. 22 Pitt Panthers are set to meet the No. 21 Xavier Musketeers at Corcoran Field on Thursday, Sept. 7 with a 7 PM start.

THE SERIES
- Thursday's matchup will be the fifth meeting between Pitt and Xavier with the Panthers holding the 3-0-1 lead on the Musketeers.
- The last contest between the schools resulted in a 1-1 tie after going into two overtimes.
- Pitt is looking to continue the undefeated streak against Xavier on Thursday evening.
SCOUTING XAVIER
- The previous No. 25 Xavier Musketeers topped No. 23 Saint Louis, 1-0, on Thursday evening.
- Currently, the Musketeers are 4-1 on the season, having only lost to Illinois thus far.
- Xavier held the advantage on shots (15-9), and shots on goal (8-4).
- The Musketeers took the 1-0 lead after Samantha Wiehe completed the penalty kick, scoring the game winning goal for Xavier.
- Freshman goalkeeper Maria Galley set a new career-high for saves on Thursday, completing the evening in a shutout.
RECAPPING SUNDAY'S WIN
- The Panthers continued their season undefeated after dominating the pitch against Bowling Green on Sunday, Sept. 3.
- Pitt topped the Falcons with a 5-1 win on Sunday evening at Senior Night.
- Pitt scored first in the 12th minute when defender Ashton Gordon headed the ball of off Sarah Suchpanksy's clean cross in her corner kick. The Panthers went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
- The team carried their momentum into the 55th minute as Schupansky secured her first goal of the night in a penalty kick.
- Just under three minutes later, Landy Mertz assisted Keera Melenhorst who completed the third goal for Pitt.
- Pitt finished the night off with a goal from Amanda West and another goal from Schupanksy leaving just under 50 seconds on the clock.
RANKINGS ALL AROUND
- Fifth year Amanda West is currently ranked second in the nation and first in the ACC for shots per game.
- Junior Sarah Schupanksy is ranked 14th nationally and first in the ACC for goals per game, first overall nationally and in the ACC for points per game, and fifth nationally and first in the ACC for total points.
- Fifth year Landy Mertz is ranked eighth nationally and second in the ACC for assists per game, and fifth nationally and second in the ACC for total assists.
