
Pitt Women’s Soccer Opens ACC Play on the Road in Raleigh

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team (7-1-0, 0-0-0 ACC) are set to open ACC play in Raleigh, NC for the matchup against the NC State Wolfpack (1-4-3, 0-0-0 ACC) on Sunday, Sept. 17 with a 2 PM first kick.

THE SERIES
- This is the 10th overall meeting between the two programs with NC State currently holding a 5-4 edge to the Panthers.
- Pitt has a two-win lead to the Wolfpack after winning both in 2019 and 2021. The Panthers are looking to tie the series this Sunday at Dail Soccer Stadium.
SCOUTING NC STATE
- NC State secured at 2-2 draw against High Point on Thursday evening at Dial Soccer Stadium.
- High Point scored their second goal after coming out of the locker room at halftime with a 1-0 lead.
- Fernanda Soto posted the first goal for NC State in the 77th minute to cut High Point's lead in half.
- Alexis Strickland notched the Wolfpack's equalizing goal, earning her team-best third goal of the season.
RECAPPING SUNDAY'S WIN
- The Panthers topped their nonconference schedule with a win at Gettler Stadium where they defeated Cincinnati, 2-1.
- Just seconds before the 64th minute, Samiah Phiri sent the ball directly to the net to put the Panthers on the board first after a clean pass from Amanda West.
- Cincinnati equalized the score, leaving just under three minutes on the board.
- Phiri came up from the back to place the ball into the back of the net, posting her second goal of the afternoon and secured the win for Pitt.
- Pitt held strong numbers on Sunday, with 16-9 shots, 9-3 shots on goal, 9-4 corner kicks overall and two saves from Ellie Breech.
RANKINGS ALL AROUND
- The Panthers are currently No. 3 in the nation for shots per game (22), No. 4 for assists per game (3.62) and No. 3 for corner kicks per game (8.88).
- Amanda West is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation for overall points (109), goals (44), goals per game (0.76) and points per game (1.88).
