
No. 14 Women’s Soccer Set to Host Drexel in Home Opener Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The No. 14 Pitt women's soccer team (1-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) opens up their home slate Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field as they welcome the Drexel Dragons (1-0-0, 0-0-0 CAA). Sunday's match will kick at 1:00 pm and air live on ACC Network.
The Panthers will be looking for their seventh straight home opening victory after knocking off UMass 6-1 last season.

This meeting marks the second meeting of all-time between the two programs with Drexel collecting the lone victory in the series in 2009.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS

The Dragons are 1-0 on the season after downing Fordham 3-0 on Thursday night in their season opener. Meg Tate, Isabel Kuzy and Liv Brocious netted the goals for Drexel while Elise Duffy notched a pair of assists in the win.

Drexel placed fifth in the preseason poll with 111 points. Monmouth was selected atop the poll with 124 points followed by Northeastern with 123. Hofstra was third with 117 points with Towson garnering 112 points. Overall, six different teams received a first place vote.

The Dragons have a pair of players, Delaney Lappin and Annalena O'Reilly who were tabbed as preseason All-CAA players. Additionally, Lily Dunbar earned honorable mention honors. The 2022 CAA Attacking Player of the Year, Lappin led Drexel and set single-season program records with 12 goals and 27 points last season. O'Reilly was the 2022 CAA Midfielder of the Year, scoring seven goals, five assists and 19 points a season ago. Dunbar was Second Team All-Conference last season for a year in which she led all Drexel field players with 1,654 minutes and marked career-highs with four assists and six points.

Last season, Drexel posted an 11-3-5 overall record with a 5-2-2 conference mark.
RECAPPING THE OPENING WIN

The Panthers opened their 2023 campaign Thursday night with a 2-1 road victory over Buffalo, a NCAA tournament team from last season.

After missing most of last season due to a knee injury, Amanda West picked up right where she left off as she netted the first goal of the match in the 65th minute off of a good cross from Ashley Moon. West has now scored a goal in all five of her season openers in her career.

Landy Mertz netted the eventual game-winner in the 69th minute as she finished off a great cross from Samiah Phiri.
HOME TURF ADVANTAGE
- Pitt has posted a winning record at home in each of the last four seasons including a 21-6-1 mark over the last three seasons.
- The Panthers set a program record with eight home wins last year.
