SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Pitt secured the series win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, splitting the doubleheader at Melissa Cook Stadium early Sunday afternoon. The Panthers defeated the Fighting Irish 13-11 in the first game and fell 10-2 in the second game on the day.
Sarah Seamans had a monstrous day at the plate, going a combined 5-for-7 with four RBI. Pitt claimed first all-time series win over the Fighting Irish and first ACC series win since defeating North Carolina in all four games April 16-18, 2021.

It was an offensive clinic from the start, as the Panthers and Fighting Irish combined to score 15 total runs in the first three innings. The two teams combined for 24 runs, 27 hits, four home runs and nine extra base hits.
Sarah Seamans (4-for-5), Kat Rodriguez (3-for-4) and Bailey Drapola (3-for-4) all recorded three or more hits as the Panthers recorded season highs in runs (13) and hits (15) en route to securing the series against the Fighting Irish.
Pitt wasted no time getting on the board by scoring two runs in the top of the first. Whaley hit a leadoff triple followed by an RBI single to the shortstop from freshman Macy Hamilton (2-for-5). Seamans crushed her eighth double of the season in the next at-bat to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.
Notre Dame went up 4-2 by hitting two, two run homers in the bottom of the first. Pitt came out swinging in the third inning, scoring nine runs on six hits, to take an 11-4 lead. Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez (1-for-3) and Rodriguez each hit a solo home run to extend the Panthers lead in the fourth inning and sixth inning, respectively.
Pitt outscored Notre Dame 11-4 in the first three innings, but the Fighting Irish made a comeback and outscored the Panthers 7-2 in the final four frames. The Irish found a spark towards the end but could not overcome the Panthers' defense.
Abby Edwards (6-7) earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings with seven runs, five earned runs, eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Dani Drogemuller (3) earned her second consecutive save after giving up just one earned run on two hits with no walks and a strikeout in 1.2 innings.

The second game of the doubleheader looked to be another back-and-forth game as the score was tied 2-2 in the middle of the second inning. Karina Gaskins gave the Fighting Irish the edge early with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second.
The Fighting Irish hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second to cap off a five-run inning. Gaskins and Lexi Orozco went back-to-back again in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure to 10-2 victory.
Gaskins led the Fighting Irish at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three home runs and seven RBI.
NOTES
- Yvonne Whaley snapped a season-long 11-game hitting streak and a 16 game on-base streak. The hitting streak and on-base streak were both the longest streaks by a Panther this season.
