Yvonne Whaley Ties Single Season Program Record in Doubles

PITTSBURGH – Pitt squared off in a pitchers' duel in the series finale with Georgia Tech, but ultimately fell to the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, early Sunday afternoon at Vartabedian Field. The Panthers drop to 19-19 on the season and 3-11 in ACC Play.

The Panthers racked up six hits but were held scoreless after two previous games that saw a combined 43 runs scored and 38 hits between the two teams.

Graduate student Yvonne Whaley accounted for three of the Panthers' six hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. Whaley now has 17 doubles on the year and is tied with Jessica Dignon (2008) for the most doubles for a single season in program history.

Dani Drogemuller retired 15 of 17 batters through 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit and a walk in that span. Drogemuller was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts, over 5.2 innings.

The Yellow Jackets scored all three runs in the sixth inning, led by Jin Sileo breaking the scoreless tie with a leadoff home run to start the inning. Emma Kauf and Sara Beth Allen each followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.

UP NEXT
The Panthers return to the diamond to host Akron in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Pitt will embark on their final conference road series of the season at Clemson, April 21-23.
