Channise Lewis Leads Pitt To Home Win Over Boston College, 75-64

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-16, 3-12 ACC) earned their second straight ACC win Thursday night as they notched the 75-64 victory over the Boston College Eagles at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers have now won three of four overall in ACC play for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.
Graduate transfer Channise Lewis was the difference maker for the Panthers Thursday as she netted a career-high 15 points and added six assists while going 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-5 from behind the arc in the win. Dayshanette Harris scored in double figures for the fourth straight game as she netted 13 points, three assists and three steals while Liatu King came off the bench and netted eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Senior captain Amber Brown finished off her night with four points and a team-high seven rebounds as she moved into 10th place on Pitt's all-time rebounds charts with her 665th career board.
The Pitt bench had another monster game in the win as they scored 51 bench points in the win while the Eagles only scored eight in the loss. The Panthers have scored 109 bench points in the last two games, the most over a two-game span in program history. They have notched 50+ bench points in back-to-back contests for the first time in program history.

FIRST QUARTER
- Maliyah Johnson opened the game with the first four points as she hit a leaner and a pair of free throws to give Pitt the 4-0 lead.
- Marley Washenitz finished off a layup and free throw and Liatu King knocked down a jumper to give Pitt the 9-5 lead at the first media timeout.
- The Panthers netted six of the final eight points of the first quarter as Dayshanette Harris, Gabby Hutcherson and Washenitz each scored two points to give Pitt the 15-7 lead through 10 minutes.
- Pitt held the Eagles to just three field goals in the opening frame while forcing eight turnovers.
- Pitt opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run as King, Taisha Exanor and Channise Lewis finished off layups in the lane before Avery Strickland had a three-point play to make it 24-7 in favor of the Panthers.
- The Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to force Pitt into a timeout with 4:33 to play in the opening half as the Panthers were clinging to the 26-18 lead.
- Out of the media, Lewis drained a triple and Amber Brown finished off a layup and free throw to give Pitt the 34-22 lead late in the quarter.
- After a BC layup, Harris closed the scoring in the half with a layup at the buzzer to give Pitt the 36-25 lead at halftime.
- The Eagles opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run before Strickland netted her first triple of the game to make it 41-33 in favor of the Panthers.
- Exanor finished off a fast break layup after a great assist by Lewis before the Eagles finished off a layup to make it a six-point game, 46-40, at the media timeout in the third.
- Cynthia Ezeja gave Pitt the 53-44 lead late in the third quarter but Boston College responded with back-to-back triples to make it 53-50 in favor of Pitt with under a minute to play.
- Johnson closed out the third with four quick points to give the Panthers the 57-50 lead through 30 minutes.
- The Panthers opened the fourth quarter with the first seven points as Emy Hayford and Harris finished off layups before Hutcherson forced a BC timeout with a deep triple to extend the Pitt lead out to 64-50.
- The Eagles got some energy after the timeout as they went on an 11-1 run to get back within four, 65-61, with just over four minutes to go.
- After the media timeout, the Panthers completely dominated down the stretch of the game as Strickland and Harris netted back-to-back triples to secure the 75-64 home victory for Pitt.
- Pitt finished the game shooting 44.4% from the floor while they held the Eagles to just 39.3%. The Panthers improved to 10-2 on the year when shooting a higher percentage from the floor than their opponent.
- Pitt forced 20 turnovers by the Eagles and they turned those chances into 20 points.
- The Pitt bench dominated once again as they scored 51 points in the win. It marked the first time in program history the bench has scored 50+ points in two straight games.
- Boston College held the slim 37-36 edge in rebounds but Pitt held the 9-7 lead in second chance points in the win.

- With the win, Pitt is now 20-34 all-time against the Eagles and 11-14 in Pittsburgh in the series.
- The win marks Pitt's first at home against the Eagles since Jan. 5, 2017.
- Pitt has now won back-to-back ACC games for the first time since the 2016-17 season. They have also won three of four in ACC play for the first time since 2014-15.
- 11 Panthers scored at least two points and grabbed at least one rebound in the win.
- Pitt returns home Sunday afternoon as they welcome #10 Notre Dame to the Petersen Events Center for a 2:00 pm tip.

- There will be multiple events going on Sunday as it will be Pitt's Hail To Her game where the athletic department will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX. It will also be Senior Day for six Panthers including Channise Lewis, Cynthia Ezeja, Emy Hayford, Destiny Strother, Dayshanette Harris and Amber Brown.
- At halftime, the Panthers will also be retiring the #12 jersey of Jennifer Bruce. She will become the second Pitt female basketball player to have her jersey retired joining Lorri Johnson's #24 jersey in the rafters of the Pete.
