Panthers Fall On Senior Day To #10 Notre Dame

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-17, 3-13 ACC) fell on Sunday afternoon to #10 Notre Dame by the score of 83-43.
Prior to Sunday's game, the Panthers honored their six seniors, Dayshanette Harris, Amber Brown, Emy Hayford, Cynthia Ezeja, Destiny Strother and Channise Lewis, as part of Senior Day at the Pete. At halftime, the Panthers also retired Jennifer Bruce's #12 jersey. She became the second Pitt women's basketball player to have her jersey retired, joining Lorri Johnson's #24.
Brown led the Panthers in scoring in the loss as she netted 13 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist while going 5-for-7 from the floor. It marked her 13th time scoring in double figures on the year. Strother earned the start and finished with eight points while connecting on a pair of triples while Maliyah Johnson finished with six points and four rebounds in the loss.

FIRST QUARTER
- The Irish scored the first three points of the game before Maliyah Johnson got Pitt on the board with a mid-range jumper from the wing.
- Notre Dame forced the Panthers to take a time just over three minutes into the game as they went on a 7-2 run and took the 13-5 lead.
- Channise Lewis came out of the timeout and knocked down a jumper but the Irish ended the quarter with the final eight points to take the 24-8 lead through 10 minutes.
- Notre Dame dominated the glass in the opening quarter as they held the 16-3 edge in rebounds across the first 10 minutes.
- The Irish scored the first three points of the second quarter before Amber Brown got the Pitt offense going with back-to-back layups to make it 27-12 in favor of Notre Dame at the media timeout.
- Out of the media, Brown finished off another layup after a great feed inside by Lewis but the Irish came right back with back-to-back triples to take the 33-14 lead.
- The Irish closed out the scoring with seven straight to take the 40-16 lead into the locker room.
- Marley Washenitz opened the scoring in the third for Pitt with a jumper before Brown converted a pair of layups to make it 45-22 in favor of Notre Dame.
- The Irish took control of the game over the next couple minutes as they scored eight straight to take the 53-22 lead into the third quarter media timeout.
- Avery Strickland and Johnson made back-to-back layups and Lewis hit three free throws as the Panthers entered the fourth trailing 59-29.
- The Irish opened the final quarter with seven straight points to push their lead out to 66-29, forcing Pitt to take a timeout.
- Destiny Strother finished off the scoring in the game for Pitt with a pair of triples and layup as the Panthers fell 83-43 on Sunday.
- Pitt finished the game shooting just 28.1% from the floor while the Irish shot 46.0% in the win.
- Notre Dame held the dominant 48-26 edge in rebounds while also scoring 16 second chance points.
