MEET NOTES
- The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to South Bend, Ind. for a double dual meet against Notre Dame and Penn State. The Panthers hosted the double dual meet last season at Trees Pool, where the men's swimming and diving team came out victorious against the Nittany Lions.
- The men's team holds a 25-15 overall record against Penn State and a 7-17 overall against Notre Dame, dating back to the 1937-38 season. The women's team is 8-20 against Penn State and 3-19 against Notre Dame, dating back to the 1974-74 season.
- Jerry Chen was named the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week after winning four total events over two meets against Stanford and California. Chen won the 100 and 200 Breast events in each meet and is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation in the 200 Breast (1:57.83) and No. 13 in the 100 Breast (54.03).
- The Pitt men's swimming team have six times ranked in the top-20 among Division I swimmers over the weekend. In addition to Chen, Marcin Goraj ranks No. 10 in the 200 Back (1:44.08), Krzysztof Radziszewski ranks No. 15 in the 50 Back (21.97), while Max Matteazzi ranks No. 16 in the 200 IM (1:47.95).
- Dylan Reed won both the 1-meter (368.03) and the 3-meter (356.63) against defending national team champion, California. Reed, Cameron Cash, and Daley Fraser finished 1-2-3 on the 1-meter at the meet. Reed came in first with a score of 368.03, followed by Cash with a score of 335.10 and Fraser with a total score of 333.68.
- Sophomore Megan Iannon secured second place in the 1-meter and 3-meter events against both meets over the weekend.
- Four divers have already secured an NCAA Zone Cut score, including three divers qualifying in two events:
- 1-meter: Cameron Cash, Daley Fraser, Chase Marafioto, Dylan Reed
- 3-meter: Cameron Cash, Daley Fraser, Dylan Reed
2024 TEAM USA OLYMPIC TRIALS
- Pitt heads into the Olympic year with four U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers and six other student-athletes within .80 or less of a trials qualifying time.
- The Panthers have two swimmers (Jerry Chen, 200 Breast; Claire Jansen, 100 Back) and two divers (Cameron Cash, Dylan Reed) meet the qualifying marks for the Olympic Trials.
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
- Marcin Goraj returns to Pittsburgh after claiming a bronze medal in the 100 Back (54.89) at the Polish Nationals and earned a silver medal at the World University Games for his prelims swim in the 400 Mixed Medley Relay.
- Sophie Yendell became a British National Champion in the 50 Fly (26.16) the second fastest Great Britain swimmer of all time in the 50 Fly and is currently ranked 49th in the world for 2023.
