Pitt Men Secure Five First-Place Event Finishes on Day One of Double Dual in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Pittsburgh men's swimming and diving program secured five first-place event finishes on day one of a double dual meet against No. 17 Notre Dame and Penn State, Friday evening.
Starting the evening off strong, the 400 Medley Relay comprised of Krzysztof Radziszewski, Jerry Chen, Marcin Goraj and Stepan Goncharov finished first to Penn State and second overall with their time of 3:08.38. With this finish, they are ranked with the third fastest time in the nation.
Freshman Michal Piela finished the 500 Free in first place with his time of 4:24.31. Piela's time is currently the 21st fasted time in the nation. Guy Frimis was not far behind, finishing second overall with a time of 4:26.49.
Chen continued last week's success, taking first against both Notre Dame and Penn State in the 100 Breast. With his time of 53.81, he now has the seventh fastest time in the nation. Max Matteazzi (54.31) and Javier Zorzano (54.72) placed third and fourth, respectively overall. Matteazzi's time is currently the 21st fastest in the nation.
Goncharov secured a first-place finish against Penn State and second-place finish to Notre Dame in the 100 Free with a time of 43.42 – securing the 20th ranked spot in the nation. Dominic Toledo claimed a second-place finish to Penn State and third overall with his time of 43.75.
Goraj posted an event win in the 200 back – finishing with a time of 1:40.76. Goraj's finish marks the second fastest time in the nation. The senior took a first-place finish against Penn State in the 100 Fly with a time of 47.41 – coming in second to Notre Dame. Goraj's time puts him ranked 16th in the nation. Adam Mahler posted a second-place finish to Penn State in the 100 Fly with his time of 47.86.
Continuing the momentum, Matteazzi, Piela and Zorzano finished 1-2-3 in the 400 IM with their times of 3:47.87, 3:49.77, and 3:54.08, respectively. Matteazzi and Piela each recorded a Top-25 fastest time in the nation with Matteazi coming in seventh and Piela in 10th.
The 200 Free Relay team built of Goncharov, Toledo, Radziszewski and Goraj finished ahead of Penn State and second overall with their time of 1:19.31 – recording the fourth fastest time in the nation.
To top of the eventful evening, Dylan Reed landed in first overall in the 3 Meter – posting 412.95 total points. Cameron Cash secured second to Penn State and third overall with his total points of 369.85.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to the Rolfs Aquatic Center for the final day of the double dual meet with Notre Dame and Penn State. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
