
#11 Panthers Set To Host Crosstown Rival Duquesne Tuesday Night

PITTSBURGH – Looking to get back on track, the Pitt men's soccer team (5-4-3, 2-2-2 ACC) returns home Tuesday night as they play host to crosstown rival Duquesne at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Tuesday's City Game will kick at 7:00 pm and air live on ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES VS. DUQUESNE
- This meeting marks the 13th all-time between the two programs with the Panthers owning the dominant 10-0-2 record in the series.
- Pitt has won five straight in the series while outscoring the Dukes 16-3 across those matches.
- The two teams met at Ambrose Urbanic Field last season and the Panthers earned a 5-2 win as Luis Sahmkow and Michael Sullivan each netted a goal in the City Game win.
- The Panthers are 7-0-1 against the Dukes in games played at Pitt. The Panthers have outscored Duquesne 21-3 in those games.
- Pitt has allowed the Dukes to score at least one goal in only four of the previous 12 matches in the series.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
- Duquesne owns a 6-5-2 overall record and a 3-2-1 A-10 mark on the season after collecting a 3-2 home win over George Washington Saturday night.
- The Dukes are being led offensively by Ask Ekeland who has netted eight goals, one assist and 17 points on a team-high 34 shots. Three of his eight goals are game-winners. Jayden Da is enjoying a nice season as he has six goals, three assists and 15 points including three game-winners.
- In goal, Zoltan Nagy has started all 13 matches and owns a 6-5-2 overall record with a 1.38 goals-against average and two clean sheets. He has made a total of 64 saves on the year.
LAST TIME OUT VS. VIRGINIA
- Despite scoring the first goal of the match in the eighth minute, the Panthers fell on the road 2-1 to Virginia Friday night.
- Freshman forward Albert Thorsen opened the scoring for Pitt in the eighth minute as he buried his fourth of the season.
- The Cavaliers responded to the Pitt goal with back-to-back goals of their own in the 18th and 28th minutes to secure the 2-1 home win.
- For the match, Pitt held the 13-10 edge in shots while the two teams each earned five corners.
- In goal, Cabral Carter made just one save in the loss.
SECOND HALF DOMINATION
- One of the strengths of this Pitt squad so far this season has been their ability to make changes at halftime and own the second half of play.
- So far this season, Pitt owns a 13-5 edge in second half scoring.
- Last time out in the win over Virginia Tech, the Panthers netted three second half goals in under eight minutes to secure the home win.
- Pitt has outscored their opponent six times in the second half this season. They are 5-0-1 on the season when they win the scoring battle in the second 45 minutes.

NEWCOMERS MAKING NOISE
- The Panthers have received major contributions from their newcomers so far this season.
- Freshman forward Albert Thorsen has led this group as he has started 10 matches for the Panthers. The Norway native netted the lone goal in the road loss to Virginia Friday and now has four goals, two assists and 10 points on 17 shots so far this season.
- Transfers Luka Kozomara and Joao Souza each have netted three goals on the season while combining for 23 shots.
- The french duo of Abdoulaye Toure and Raphael Cilli have made their presence felt early on. Toure has two goals, two assists and six points on 15 shots while Cilli netted his first career goal and assist in the win over VT as he has appeared in 10 matches and earned eight starts at right back for Pitt.
- Felipe Mercado has been a strong presence for Pitt in the midfield, nine matches at the holding midfield position with one assist.
NEXT UP
- Pitt stays at home Saturday, October 21 as they close out their regular season home slate with a match against #15 Duke. Saturday's match will kick at 7:00 pm and Pitt's four seniors, Filip Mirkovic, Fabian Grau, Mathys Lefebvre and Joao Souza will honored before the game as part of Senior Day at Ambrose.
