
Panthers Dominate the Keystone Classic with a Home Opening Win

PITTSBURGH —The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (3-0, 0-0 EAGL) dominated the evening as they pushed past Penn, Temple and Penn State in the Keystone Classic quad meet Friday at the Fitzgerald Field House.
"Tonight was great," said head coach Samantha Snider. "We showed a lot of grit and poise in the face of adversity throughout the course of the night. We are excited to build off this success from tonight's meet. I am very proud of our freshmen and newcomer performances as they each gained a valuable experience this evening. We are excited to get back in the gym next week and focus on some details to prepare for our weekend in Utah."
Sophomore Sidney Washington sets a new personal record (9.875) – earning the first-place title in vault. Freshman Reyna Garvey had a shining debut of her career – earning the first-place title on beam with a score of 9.950. Jordyn Ewing took the second-place title and set a new personal record with her score of 9.925.
VAULT
Four Panthers set new personal records in the first rotation – Washington (9.875), Ciara Ward (9.850), Garvey (9.700), and Christina Weiss (9.700). The Panthers scored a 48.975 to give them the early lead for the night.
BARS
Tonight, Ewing took the lead for the team, scoring a 9.825. Freshman Natalia Pawlak made her shining debut on the second rotation, scoring a 9.800. Copperwheat anchored the event, securing a 9.775 score. The Panthers continued strong with a team score of 48.800.
BEAM
The Panthers' momentum throughout the night continued into the third rotation. Garvey earned a career-high 9.950 on beam. The team claimed the highest beam score on the night – earning a 48.975.
FLOOR
During the final rotation, Washington led the event and earned a career-high 9.900 for her routine, as well as Copperwheat with a 9.875. The team concluded the evening securing the highest floor score – 49.200. The Panthers were relentless as they secured the winning title – scoring 195.950 and breaking their previous home opening score in history (192.900).

The Panthers will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for their first road test of the season against Iowa, California and Oregon State at the Wasatch Classic, Sunday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
