
Panthers Finish Second at Ball State Quad Meet

MUNCIE, IN – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (5-6, 0-0 EAGL) finished second overall of four teams in a quad-meet with Ball State, SEMO, and Fisk at the Worthen Arena Sunday afternoon.
In her all-around journey, sophomore Hallie Copperwheat secured the first-place title on beam and in the all-around - earning a 39.350 overall.
The Panthers topped the SEMO Redhawks, 194.700, and the Fisk Bulldogs, 189.650, but fell short against the Ball State Cardinals, 196.300.
BARS
Sophomore Jordyn Ewing and freshman Natalia Pawlak started the afternoon off strong with their scores of a 9.775 on bars. Copperwheat scored a 9.825 en route to her 39.350 first-place title all-around score. Pitt finished the first rotation with a 48.750.
BEAM
The Panthers had their highest performing rotation this afternoon on beam. Copperwheat set a new career-high, earning a 10.000 from one judge and securing the first-place title with her score of 9.950. Freshman Reyna Garvey had a strong performance, earning a 9.875. The Panthers finished the second rotation with a score of 49.075.
FLOOR
Sophmore Sidney Washington earned the event title on floor with her score of 9.950 – setting a new career-high. Senior Nay'yarrah Winder and Copperwheat both earned a 9.850 for their routines. Jordyn Ewing finished strong, earning a 9.825. The Panthers finished the rotation with a 48.575.
VAULT
Pitt finished the afternoon's event on vault. Washington finished at the top of the rotation for the Panthers, earning a 9.800. Copperwheat completed the all-around with her score of a 9.775 on vault. All six competitors scored a 9.650 or higher, combining for a team score of 48.675.
UP NEXT
Pitt will return home for the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House. This rivalry meet will recognize the 50th anniversary of Title IX and highlight the history of Pitt Gymnastics.
