
Pitt Returns Home Thursday Night For Matchup With #15 North Carolina

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-12. 0-8 ACC) returns home Thursday night for another ranked matchup as they welcome No. 15 North Carolina to the Petersen Events Center for a conference battle. Thursday's game will tip at 6:00 pm and air on ACC Network Extra.

- Junior Liatu King has been the Panthers' best player all season long as she leads the squad averaging 10.7 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 41.7% from the floor. King ranks 6th in the ACC in rebounds (8.2 rpg) and blocks (1.5 bpg).
- Senior Amber Brown is on a roll for Pitt as she has scored in double figures in seven of her past eight games. Over that stretch, Brown is averaging a team-high 14.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 52.8% from the floor.
- The Panthers return home Thursday night as they welcome No. 15 North Carolina to the Pete for a 6pm tip on ACC Network Extra.
- The undersized forward duo of Liatu King and Amber Brown are combining to average 21.3 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 46.1% from the floor on the year.
- Senior captain Dayshanette Harris led the Panthers in scoring last time out as she netted nine points at Florida State Sunday. She has now scored 976 career points and is just 34 points shy of becoming the 20th Panther in program history to score 1,000 points. She is also the first Panther since Brianna Kiesel (2011-15) to record 900+ points and 250+ assists in a career.
- This meeting marks the 13th between the two programs with each team winning six games in the all-time series.
- The Tar Heels have won three straight in the series including a 64-54 home win over Pitt last season.
- The Panthers own a 4-1 all-time record at home against North Carolina.
- The North Carolina Tar Heels enter Thursday's game with a 14-5 overall record and 5-3 ACC mark while being ranked No. 15 in the latest AP Top-25 Poll. They have won five straight ACC games including a 70-57 win over Georgia Tech last time out.
- The Tar Heels are led offensively by Deja Kelly who is averaging 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists across 33.7 minutes per game. Alyssa Ustby is enjoying a great season as she is averaging 13.8 points, a team-high 9.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks while shooting 52.4% from the floor.
- Kennedy Todd-WIlliams is averaging a career-high 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds while connecting on 33 triples and shooting 34% from deep.
- As a team, North Carolina is averaging 73.0 ppg while holding opponents to just 59.8 ppg.
- Senior captain Amber Brown hasn't missed a game over her four-year career and has earned the start in every single game.
- The do-it-all player has started all 99 career games for the Panthers while averaging 28.0 minutes per game in her career.
- Brown will be making her 100th straight start to begin her career Thursday, marking the most consecutive starts to begin a career for a Pitt player since Brianna Kiesel started a program record 122 straight games (2011-14).
- Brown's streak of 99 straight games to start a career are the most by any active ACC player without missing a game. Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Kitley has earned 105 starts in a row to start her career but she has also missed games over her career as a Hokie.
- The freshmen trio of Avery Strickland, Aislin Malcolm and Marley Washenitz have been a pleasant surprise early on this season for Pitt.
- Strickland has appeared in all 19 games while earning eight straight starts for Pitt. She is averaging 20.3 minutes, 5.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 34.4% from the floor and connecting on 21 triples.
- In the win over Loyola (MD) last week, Strickland netted a career-high 17 points, two rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes of work. She finished off her night going 7-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the win.
- Strickland became the first ACC freshman since Jackie Young (ND) in 2016 to come off the bench and score at least 15 points, make three triples, shoot 85% from the floor and record two steals.
- Fellow freshman guard Marley Washenitz is flourishing for Pitt so far this season. On the year, Washenitz is averaging 16.2 minutes, 3.9 points, a team-high 2.0 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals while making eight starts at point guard.
- In a road game at Syracuse, Washenitz posted a career-high seven assists. She is the first Pitt freshman since Jasmine Whitney in 2016 (10 vs. Charlotte, 12/4/16) to record at least seven assists in a game.
- Aislin Malcolm has brings a great shot to the floor for Pitt. She currently ranks third on the team with 19 three-pointers made.
- On the year, Malcolm is averaging 11.8 minutes, 4.1 points and 1.1 rebounds while shooting a team-high 43.2% from behind the arc.
- Malcolm currently ranks 5th among freshmen in the NCAA (with a minumum of 44 attempts) in three-point field goal percentage (43.2%).
- The Panthers hit the road Sunday as they travel to Massachusetts to take on Boston College.
- The Panthers and Eagles will tip at 2:00 pm on Sunday and the game will air live on ACC Network Extra.
