Pitt Falls to Penn State at PNC Park

The Panthers had rallied to take the lead with five runs in the eighth inning. CJ Funk led off with a walk, and Brock Franks singled to left field. Pinch-hitter Luke Lambert hit a double into right center to knock in Funk. Jeffrey Wehler hit another double to centerfield to bring home both Franks and pinch-runner Nick Giamarusti. The bases were loaded when Tatem Levins was hit by a pitch and Sky Duff drew a walk. Ron Washington, Jr. tied it up with a sac fly to right field, and Bryce Hulett produced the go-ahead RBI on a single to left field.
Penn State took its first lead with a run scored on a passed ball with an out in the fourth inning.
Pitt tied it up in the sixth inning on an RBI-single up the middle from Wehler with two outs.
The Nittany Lions went back ahead with a two-out, RBI-single in the seventh inning and added three more runs in the next inning.
The Panthers had tied up the game in the sixth inning. Funk drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Franks, got to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single to centerfield from Wehler.
The Panthers close out the regular season this weekend with a home series against Georgia Tech beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
NOTES
- Jonathan Bautista started and went four innings with no earned runs, three hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
- Brady Devereux followed with two scoreless innings of relief with two hits, no walks and one strikeout.
- Duff extended his reached-base streak to 64 games with two walks.
- Wehler went 2-4 with a team-high three RBI, and Hulett went 3-5.
- Funk notched a game-high three walks.
