A disastrous started doomed the Panthers, as four errors in the first inning created five runs for the Irish. Notre Dame added a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
The Panthers got on the board in the sixth inning. Brock Franks led off with a double down the right field line, advanced on a groundout by Jordan Anderson and scored on an RBI-single through the left side from Jeffrey Wehler. Tatem Levins knocked in Wehler with a double to right center.

Pitt recorded its third run in the eighth inning. Levins tripled off the centerfield wall and jogged in on an RBI-single to centerfield from Ron Washington, Jr.

- Matt Gilbertson started and went six innings with six earned runs, nine hits, no walks and four strikeouts.
- Gilbertson notched his seventh start (combined 48.0 innings) without a walk.
