LEADING OFF
- Pitt hosts No. 18/17 Clemson for three games starting Friday afternoon at 5 PM on the ACC Network.
- The Panthers have won two-straight at home, recently against Saint Francis (PA) Wednesday afternoon by score of 3-1.
- This weekend is the second series against the Tigers ever, the first being in 2020 in Clemson's first year as a collegiate program one week before the shutdown of all collegiate sports due to COVID-19.
AROUND THE DIAMOND
- Senior Yvonne Whaley enters with a five-game hitting streak and a batting average of .471 with eight hits, three runs and a double in that span. She is batting .290 with nine hits against ACC competition.
- Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller is 8-7 with a 2.77 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched. She has recorded 11 games with seven or more strikeouts, including three 10+ strikeout performances this year.
- Freshman Kylie Griggs is batting .368 with 7 hits, 3 runs and a double in conference action. She went 5-for-7 with 2 runs at home vs. Notre Dame Mar. 18-19.
- Senior Sarah Seamans tied a career-high with three hits vs. Saint Francis Wednesday. In her last four games, she is batting .462 with six hits, a double and 3 RBI.
- Pitt stole three bases Wednesday vs. Saint Francis, the sixth time it has stolen three or more bags in a game in 2022.
SCOUTING REPORT
- Clemson enters Pittsburgh with a 27-10 overall record and a .500, 6-6 ACC mark. It is 6-3 in true road games.
- The Tigers are on a six-game winning streak, recently defeating South Carolina, sweeping North Carolina (three games) and taking two against Furman earlier this week.
- Clemson is 11th in the nation - and third in the conference - in ERA (1.79). It is seventh in the country with 15 shutouts and 18th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.98). Valerie Cagle (#72) is 11-7 with 129 strikeouts and a 2.21 ERA in 104.1 innings pitched.
- The Tigers have five girls batting over .300 (min. 45 ABs) with both Cagle and Marissa Guimbarda (#25) hitting .308. Guimbarda, who recently was named ACC Co-Player of the Week, has 32 hits, 7 doubles, 10 homers, 32 RBI, 18 walks and a .663 SLG%.
- The last time these two teams met, Pitt won 8-2 in Clemson Mar. 8, 2020. Sarah Seamans hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the 4th inning while Katlyn Pavlick hit a 2-run homer in the same inning.
WHALEY LEADING THINGS OFF
- Senior transfer Yvonne Whaley has found much success in the leadoff spot for the Panthers this season, leading the team in batting average (.316) and hits (30) while totaling 11 runs, 5 stolen bases and a 32 total bases.
- The Houston, Texas, native is batting .290 with nine hits in conference play.
- She is batting .471 with eight hits, a double, three runs and a .500 on-base percentage in her past five games.
- Whaley has 10 multi-hit games this season with two three hit performances. She enters the Clemson series on a five-game hitting streak.
PITT SOFTBALL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS
- The 2022 marks the 25th year of collegiate competition for the Pitt softball team.
- The Panthers inaugural season came in 1998 as members of the Big East (1998-2013) before moving to the Atlantic Coast Conference at the start of the 2014 season.
- Pitt will celebrate its 25th anniversary during its home game versus Clemson Saturday, April 9. Forty-two alumni are being honored on the field prior to first pitch.

- The Panthers stay home and host Boston College for three games beginning Thursday, April 14 at 6 PM.
