Softball Time Change; Pitt, Saint Francis Set for 3 PM Wednesday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team is set to host Saint Francis with a new time change of 3 PM Wednesday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.

LEADING OFF

Pitt opens a seven game homestand with Saint Francis Wednesday at 3 PM on the ACC Network. The game has been pushed up two hours due to rain in the forecast.
Wednesday's game will be the 35th in the series with Pitt leading 23-11 dating back to 1998. These two teams last played April 9, 2019.
The Panthers are 11-7 in non-conference play this season.

Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller became the third pitcher since the 2014 season to record 100+ strikeouts in a single season with her 100th K at home vs. Robert Morris. She is sixth in the ACC in strikeouts with 111 on the year.
Senior Yvonne Whaley leads the team in batting with a .304 average, tallying 28 hits, 10 runs and 5 stolen bases. The Houston, Texas, native is batting .455 in her last three games.
Pitt defeated Robert Morris, 7-2, Wednesday, Mar. 30 in its last home game. Pitt tied a season-best with 12 hits and had four players with two hits on the evening. The team also registered five doubles, the most in a single game since 2018.
Freshman Kylie Griggs is batting .368 with 7 hits, a double, 3 runs and has a .429 on-base percentage in ACC play.

SCOUTING REPORT

Saint Francis enters Wednesday with an overall record of 20-12 and an 8-1 NEC conference mark. It is currently 7-8 in road contests.
The Red Flash are first in the NEC in batting average (.301). They also rank first in slugging percentage (.452), on-base percentage (.377), scoring (4.88) and home runs per game (.84). Mekenzie Saban (#2) leads the team with a .462 BAvg with 48 hits, 11 doubles, 4 homers, 18 RBI, 26 runs and 14 walks.
It ranks 1st in the NEC and 39th in the nation in ERA (2.49). It is also first in shutouts with six on the season. Rachel Marsden (#24) is 11-6 with a 2.66 ERA, striking out 96 batters in 115.2 innings thrown.
Saint Francis is 1-1 against common Pitt opponents this year, defeating Akron 6-0 and falling to Penn State 2-1.
The Red Flash won the last meeting of the series 11-3 in Loretto in 2019. Prior to that game, Pitt won six-straight games dating back to 2015.

WHALEY LEADING THINGS OFF

Senior transfer Yvonne Whaley has found much success in the leadoff spot for the Panthers this season, leading the team in batting average (.304) and hits (28) while totaling 10 runs, 5 stolen bases and a 30 total bases.
The Houston, Texas, native is batting .290 with nine hits in conference play.
She is batting .455 with five hits in her last three games and .467 with seven hits in her last five conference games.
Whaley has nine multi-hit games this season with two three hit performances.
