Pitt Claims Home Series Victory over No. 5 Louisville with 6-3 Win

PITTSBURGH – Billy Corcoran (3-2) threw his first career complete game as Pitt baseball (15-11, 5-6) claimed a series victory against No. 5 Louisville (21-7, 7-2) with a 6-3 win Sunday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field. The Panthers have won two-straight weekend series over ranked ACC teams, sweeping two games against then-No. 20 Clemson (8-0 and 10-7) last Friday.
Pitt jumped out to lead in its first trip to the plate and maintained it for the rest of the way. The bases were loaded with one-out singles from Jeffrey Wehler, Tatem Levins and Sky Duff. Ron Washington, Jr. knocked in both Wehler and Levins on a double down the left field line.
CJ Funk added a one-out solo homer to left field the next inning, his second-straight game with one and third of the year.
The closest Louisville would be was in the fifth inning when it got two runs on an RBI-double and sacrifice fly.
Bryce Hulett led off the sixth inning with a homer to right field.
The Panthers got their final two runs in the following inning. With one on and one out, Washington, Jr. homered to left field, his seventh of the season.
The Cardinals got a one-one out homer to right field in the game's final frame, but Corcoran struck out the next batter and produced a popup to shortstop Tommy Tavarez to end the comeback attempt.
Pitt finishes its seven-game homestand Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Kent State.
