YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Pitt baseball (16-11) won 9-1 at Youngstown State (10-19) Wednesday afternoon at Eastman Field. The Panthers scored eight unanswered runs for the victory.
Pitt led in the game's first frame as Sky Duff hit a solo, two-out homer to left center, his second of the season.
The Penguins tied it up in the next inning, drawing back-to-back walks followed by two-straight wild pitches.
The Panthers went back up for good in the third inning. With two outs, Duff reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, and Ron Washington, Jr. followed with a single up the middle. Bryce Hulett knocked in both with a double to left field. Jack Anderson then had a double off the left field wall that allowed Hulett to score standing up. With one out in the following inning, Tatem Levins hit a single to centerfield, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored on a fielding error from the second baseman.
An insurance run was added in the eighth inning. Tavarez drew a one-out walk, stole second base and scored on a double by Cameron Barto that dropped just fair next to the left field line.
