Pitt Travels to Virginia for Three Game Series

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team begins a stretch of seven-straight games on the road Friday, April 22 as it takes on conference opponent Virginia for the first of three games this weekend.

LEADING OFF
- Pitt travels to Charlottesville, Va., to take on ACC opponent Virginia for three games starting Friday, April 22.
- Pitt finished a stretch of 14 of its last 17 games at home Friday, April 15 with its last road game being April 3 at Syracuse. The Panthers close out the regular season with seven-straight on the road (Virginia, Robert Morris, Duke).
- The Panthers recently played Boston College for three games, totaling 26 hits, 12 runs and five homers for the series at home.
AROUND THE DIAMOND
- Senior Yvonne Whaley has made a name for herself in the leadoff role this season, batting .333 with 38 hits, 3 doubles, 2 homers, 7 walks and 16 runs. She is currently on a five-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 10 of her last 11 games.
- Despite missing the first month of play due to injury, freshman Rachael Fuerst has showcased her power in the batter's box. She is batting .462 with 6 hits, a double, 2 home runs and 6 RBI in 13 plate appearances.
- Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller is sixth in the ACC in strikeouts with 138. She is nearing fifth-place for a single-season at Pitt in strikeouts as Cory Berliner's 149 in 2008 ranks fifth.
- Pitt pitching has 217 strikeouts on the season. Last team to reach 200+ in a year - 2015 with 221.
SCOUTING REPORT
- Virginia hosts Pitt with a record of 23-21 overall and a .500, 9-9 conference ledger in the ACC.
- The Cavaliers possess one of the best fielding teams in the country, ranking 14th overall and 2nd in the league with a .976 fielding percentage.
- Virginia ranks 23rd in the nation in doubles and fourth in the ACC as it has 62 on the year.
- Leah Boggs (#28) leads the Cavaliers in batting with a .288 average as she has 36 hits, nine doubles, a triple, four home runs, 20 RBI, 19 runs and six stolen bases.
- Mikayla Houge (#25) is 9-4 with a 3.17 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 86.0 innings pitched this season.
- These two teams last met for three games in ACC pod play in Raleigh/Durham, N.C., in February of 2021 with Virginia taking two of three. The Cavaliers have won five of the last six.
KP IN THE ACC
- Known by the nickname KP, senior Katlyn Pavlick is hitting an impressive .342 with a 1.033 OPS in conference action.
- She has 13 hits with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, two walks and six runs against the ACC.
- Against nationally ranked Florida State in the team's first league series, Pavlick went 2-for-3 with a double, homer and two RBI in the series finale victory.
- She went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI in two games vs. Virginia Tech.
- Against Clemson, the outfielder went 3-for-7 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs.

- The Panthers return to Pittsburgh but play a road game at neighbor Robert Morris in Moon Township Tuesday, May 3.
- Originally scheduled as a home game, the home and home series flipped locations due to weather as Pitt hosted the Colonials Mar. 30.
