
Pitt Falls Twice in Double-Header at Syracuse Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pitt softball team fell twice Saturday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium, losing game one 5-4 in final inning and dropping game two 1-0.
NEWS & NOTES
Game One
It was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings, with Drogemuller striking out seven and not allowing a hit. Senior Sarah Seamans scored the game's first run with a single to right, scoring freshman Kylie Griggs to make it 1-0. The following inning, junior Bailey Drapola doubled to left field, scoring two and extending the Pitt lead 3-0.
Drogemuller surrendered her first hit in the top of the 6th. The Orange scored its first run after a runner advanced home from third after a stolen base attempt at second. They tied it 3-3 as a double through the left side from Kelly Breen scored two.
Pitt re-took the lead in the top of the 7th with its second double of the game courtesy of freshman Rachael Fuerst. Fuerst scored classmate Haylie Brunson while junior Kayla Lane trailed her on the base path. A bang-bang play at the plate was ruled an out and the Panthers led 4-3 into the final half.
Syracuse began the bottom of the seventh with a single followed by a sacrifice bunt to put a runner on second, one out. A triple down the left field line from Paris Woods tied the contest at 4-4 and a walk put runners on the corners. A passed ball sent in Woods from third and the Panthers fell 5-4 in the final inning.
Freshman Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez went 2-for-3 while senior Yvonne Whaley went 2-for-4. Drogemuller went six and a third, allowing three earned runs, four hits and striking out nine.
Game Two
Pitt's (12-16, 1-9 ACC) bats could not roll over into game two as it was held without a hit through five innings. Syracuse scored the lone run of the ballgame in the bottom of the third via a wild pitch. Whaley singled in the sixth to break up the Syracuse no-no while freshman Rachael Fuerst singled in the seventh to put a runner on first with one out. A strikeout and line drive ended the game as Pitt fell 1-0.

- Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller struck out nine batters in game one and held a no-hitter through 5 1/3. It was her 11th game this season with seven plus strikeouts.
- Senior Yvonne Whaley tallied three hits in total today. She has seven hits in her last five Atlantic Coast Conference games.
