Pitt Drops Series Finale to No. 18/17 Clemson

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team fell, 11-3, to No. 18/17 Clemson in five innings Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Vartabedian Field.
NEWS & NOTES
Pitt (13-19, 1-12 ACC) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as senior Katlyn Pavlick hit a solo home run to left, her fourth of the season. Clemson (30-10, 9-6 ACC) responded with a big third inning, scoring six runs on five hits to lead 6-1. Whaley hit Pitt's second homer of the day in the bottom of the third, sending a line drive that hit off the banner in centerfield and cutting into the Tiger lead, 6-2.
Clemson got that run back in the top of the fourth with a double to left center (7-2). Sophomore Cami Compson hit Pitt's third solo home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, her sixth of the season, as she got Pitt within four (7-3).
The Tigers tallied four runs in the top of the fifth to lead 11-3 as the Panthers could not record a hit in the bottom half, falling in five innings.
Pitt is back in action Thursday, April 14 for the start of a three-game home series vs. Boston College. First pitch is at 6 p.m. on the ACCNX.

- Pitt hit three home runs, the third time it has hit three homers in a game this year.
- Senior Yvonne Whaley went 1-for-3 with a homer. She finished the series batting .300 and has recorded at least one hit in eight of her last 10 games.
