Pitt Drops ACC-Opener 7-4 at No. 14 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Pitt baseball (8-5, 0-1) dropped its ACC-opener 7-4 at No. 14 North Carolina (12-2, 1-0) Friday at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels scored three unanswered runs in the last three innings to secure the win.
The Panthers scored in the game's first frame. Sky Duff led off with a double down the left field line and touched home plate on a single through the right side from Jeffrey Wehler.
The Tar Heels tied it up in the bottom of the inning, as the leadoff batter reached on an error and advanced twice on groundouts.
Pitt quickly grabbed the lead back in the second inning. With two outs, Jordan Anderson knocked in CJ Funk from second base with a single to right center.
North Carolina took its first lead in the third inning on an RBI-groundout and RBI-single and added a solo homer in the next inning.
The Panthers tied it up in the sixth inning. Levins led off with a single to left field, and Ron Washington, Jr. followed with a homer to centerfield, his second of the year.
The Tar Heels took back the lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single with two outs.
The second game of the series Saturday has been moved up an hour to 1 p.m.

- Duff extended his reach-base streak to 34 games.
