TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Pitt softball team fell to No. 3/3 Florida State, 3-0, Friday evening at JoAnne Graf Field.
NEWS & NOTES
The Panthers and Seminoles played a scoreless first inning as Florida State starter Kathryn Sandercock struck out two while Drogemuller had one. Florida State (18-0, 1-0 ACC) got on the board first with a three-run home run to left field to lead 3-0.
Drogemuller limited Seminole base runners through the first four inning as one base runner was left on base for each team. Freshman catcher Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez aided in the limited base running, as she threw out a runner attempting to steal second – her sixth of the season – and chased down a runner between home and third base for the second out of the fourth inning.
The Seminoles loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. A blooper into shallow left was hit off the bat of Jahni Kerr, but senior Yvonne Whaley made an over the shoulder grab to end the threat and keep the game 3-0. Pitt could not register a hit in the final inning and fell 3-0.
Pitt is back on the field tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for game two of the three game series versus Florida State.
