
Chamberlain, Copperwheat Set for National Collegiate Gymnastics Regionals

PITTSBURGH — Senior Katie Chamberlain and freshman Hallie Copperwheat will compete for a spot in the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Finals when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for an NCAA Regional meet Thursday, March 31 at Reynolds Coliseum.
Copperwheat will compete on uneven bars and balance beam in Session 1 at 1 p.m. ET and will rotate with LSU. Chamberlain will follow in Session 2 at 7 p.m. ET as an uneven bars specialist, rotating with Maryland.

ABOUT KATIE CHAMBERLAIN
After being forced to scratch due to injury in the 2021 NCAA Championships, Chamberlain returned this season stronger than ever and has excelled on the uneven bars for the Panthers. This season, she tied the individual program record on bars, earning a 9.950 vs. Maryland and Minnesota, has won four individual titles, and earned the EAGL conference runner-up title on bars with a 9.900 – her fourth bars score of a 9.900 or higher this season. She currently leads the Panthers nationally on bars with an NQS of 9.890 and earned All-EAGL First Team honors and EAGL First Team All-Tournament accolades as well.

A Leighton Buzzard, England native, Copperwheat is the first Panther since Katie O'Rourke in 2014 to qualify in more than one event as an individual specialist. The rookie leads Pitt with an NQS of 9.870 on beam and is one of two Panthers to score a season-high 9.925 in the event. Her NQS of 9.860 on bars is the second highest of the team behind Chamberlain. Throughout her rookie season, Copperwheat recorded the third-highest all-around score in program history, 39.500, has garnered seven individual titles – the most of anyone on the team, and was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week – the second freshman in Pitt history to earn the honor. Copperwheat also earned All-EAGL First Team accolades on bars, beam, and all-around, EAGL First Team All-Tournament on bars and all-around, and earned the prestigious EAGL Rookie of the Year award for the 2022 season.

- Each gymnast was selected as one of the top 16 event specialists based on National Qualifying Scores (NQS). The duo was placed at the Raleigh, N.C. regional site and will compete March 30- April 2 inside Reynolds Coliseum.
- This marks Chamberlain's second NCAA qualification of her career, qualifying in 2021 on bars but was forced to scratch due to injury and did not compete. This will be Copperwheat's NCAA Championships debut.
