
Panthers Fall Twice in Double-Header Against Notre Dame

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team fell twice in an Atlantic Coast Conference double-header versus Notre Dame Friday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.
NEWS & NOTES
Game One
Notre Dame (21-6, 3-2 ACC) got on the scoreboard first in the third inning, scoring four runs on three hits. The Irish added another via a passed ball in the top fifth to lead 5-0. The Panthers responded in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run from Fuerst, the first hit of her career. Compson cut the Notre Dame lead to one with a solo homer to right and Pitt trailed 5-4 into the seventh inning.
The Irish hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to take a three-run, 7-4 advantage. Pitt had its chance to tie it in the bottom of the seventh as it had the bases loaded with two outs. A walk brought in a run to make it a 7-5 game, but a strikeout ended the game.
Both Compson and freshman Kylie Griggs totaled two hits, while Fuerst went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a walk.
Game Two
Notre Dame scored three runs in the second to lead 3-0 early. It tallied six runs in the fourth and two in the fifth as the Panthers recorded only two hits and fell 11-0 in five innings.
Junior Kayla Lane went 2-for-2 at the plate, her third multi-hit game of the season.

- Freshman Rachael Fuerst hit a three-run home run in her first career start in game one. Sophomore Cami Compson hit a solo homer, her team-leading fourth of the year.
