PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Softball team fell, 8-2, to Notre Dame in the series finale Saturday afternoon at Vartrabedian Field.

Sophomore Cami Compson hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season. She leads the team with a .343 batting average and 17 RBI.
The game endured a 23-minute rain delay in the top first inning
Pitt falls to 11-12 overall and 1-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Notre Dame (22-6, 4-2 ACC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first. A double to left field scored one run in the top of the third as the Irish led 4-0. The Panthers cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third as Compson hit a two-run home run off the scoreboard netting in left.

The Irish scored a run in the top of the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh as the Panthers could not score after the third, falling 8-2.

Senior Yvonne Whaley went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman Kylie Griggs went a perfect 3-for-3, while senior Katlyn Pavlick went 2-for-3 as the Panthers totaled 10 hits, their third highest this season.

Pitt stays home and hosts nationally ranked Virginia Tech for three games starting Friday, Mar. 25 through Sunday, Mar. 27. Game one is Friday at 6 p.m. on the ACCNX.
