Pitt Hosts Notre Dame for Three Games Starting Friday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team endures a quick turnaround after hosting its first home game of the season Wednesday by hosting ACC opponent Notre Dame for three games beginning Friday afternoon.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
- Originally scheduled for one game a day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the weekend series has shifted due to rain in the forecast.
- The first game of the series will start Friday at 1 p.m. on ACCNX followed by a second game at 4 p.m. The series will conclude Saturday at its original time of 2 p.m. on the ACC Network.
LEADING OFF
- Pitt hosts Notre Dame for three games beginning with a double-header Friday followed by one game Saturday afternoon.
- Both teams enter with a 1-2 ACC record.
- The two teams have not faced each other since April 29, 2019. It is the longest gap between games among all ACC opponents for the Panthers.
- Pitt's last win against Notre Dame came May 7, 2015 in the ACC Quarterfinal by a score of 8-1.

- Pitt fell in its home opener to Penn State and looks to rebound in Atlantic Coast Conference action vs. Notre Dame this weekend.
- Sophomore Cami Compson leads the team in batting average, hitting .351 with 20 hits, 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 14 RBI, 12 runs and a .596 SLG%.
- Senior Yvonne Whaley is batting .333 with five hits, two stolen bases and two runs in her last four games. She is third on the team with 18 hits on the year.
- Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller 6-4 with a 1.87 ERA and 78 strikeouts on the season. She has tallied eight games with seven or more strikeouts this year.
- The Panthers rank fifth in the ACC in stolen bases per game (1.35). Junior EC Taylor is seventh in the league with 0.37 stolen bases per game with a team-high seven swiped bases on the year.
SCOUTING REPORT
- Notre Dame enters Vartabedian Field with an overall record of 19-6 and an away mark of 2-3.
- Like Pitt, Notre Dame has played very limited home games with its first two earlier this week. The Fighting Irish defeated Detroit Mercy (18-0/5 inn.) and Western Michigan 7-2 Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
- Notre Dame ranks second in the country in doubles with 50 on the season, trailing only North Dakota St. (54). Leea Hanks (#3) leads the squad with eight on the year.
- As a team, the Fighting Irish are hitting .318, ranking third in the conference and 26th nationally. Abby Sweet (#26) is eighth in the league with a .408 batting average, totaling 31 hits, 7 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 5 HRs, 14 RBI, 25 runs and a .750 SLG%.
- Notre Dame is fifth in the conference in ERA (2.29). In 12 appearances, Shannon Becker (#31) is 6-1 with a 1.02 ERA, striking out 38 batters in 41.0 innings pitched and registering four complete games and two shutouts.
